Martyn's Law procedures your team can follow under pressure.

For restaurants, hotels, event spaces and caterers that can hold 200 or more people: lockdown, invacuation and evacuation as short steps at every station, practised in drills, recorded by site.

The public protection procedures.

Know the first minutes

Every member of staff knows whether to lock down, bring people in or get them out, and who decides.

Practise it

Drills by site, with who took part, how long it took and what needs work, so the next drill is better than the last.

Say it in their language

Kitchen and housekeeping crews read or hear the steps in the language they work in.

  • Lockdown
  • Invacuation
  • Evacuation for a security threat
  • Communication during an incident
  • Public protection drills and training

aisop

Say what is happening. The right steps open.

If a crew member tells aisop there is an attacker, a bomb threat or a suspicious package, it opens the lockdown steps straight away, in their language. It never sends people to the fire evacuation route by mistake.

Questions

What operators ask first.

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 applies to qualifying premises and events in the UK that can hold 200 or more people, with enhanced duties at 800 or more. Check the Home Office and SIA guidance for your premises and the dates duties take effect.

Five standards: lockdown, invacuation, evacuation for a security threat, communication during an incident, and public protection drills and training, plus drill records by site.

Threat words such as "attacker", "bomb threat" or "suspicious package" open the lockdown steps straight away. If a site has no lockdown standard, aisop opens emergency mode without sending people to the fire evacuation route.
